Chasseur a Cheval Legion Portugaise

This regiment was attached to the Imperial Guard at Borodino. So they didn't see any action at the battle. I wanted to paint them so that I would have the whole Legion.

These are actually Old Glory Austrians that I bought on Ebay years ago. I needed more horses for other units. They had thick paint on them that was a real pain to strip.

2nd Regiment Legion Portugaise

The 2nd Regiment Legion Portugaise was part of Marshal Ney's Third Corps. They were under Razout's 11th Division in Compere's Brigade. Compere was killed at Borodino.

This unit is from the rest of the pack of Portuguese my daughters bought me for Christmas. They are Old Glory miniatures.  I painted them with different details so I can tell the two regiments apart on the table.

1st Regiment Legion Portugaise

The 1st Regiment of the Legion Portugaise was in Marshal Ney's Third Army Corps. They were part of the 10th Division.

The Legion suffered heavy during the Russian campaign. They were at Smolensk, Vitebsk and Borodino.

It is said that they were highly regarded by Napoleon.  He called them his "Black Infantry ". But he would never let them have Eagles or standards.

I asked for these Old Glory Portuguese for Christmas from my daughters and they came through.
